Whose Gold? Yours, Not Mine

SHRI SURENDRANATH JAUHAR, affectionately known as Chacha-ji ("Uncle"), was born in 1903 in Vahalee, a village in that part of Punjab which is now in Pakistan. Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, he joined the Indian freedom movement at the age of eighteen and remained actively involved until the country attained independence in 1947. During a tour of India in 1939, he made an "unplanned" visit to the Sri Aurobindo Ashram in Pondicherry, an experience that gave a new direction to his life. A gifted storyteller, Chacha-ji narrated many inspiring tales, of which Whose Gold? Yours, Not Mine is one of the most memorable.

Ramesh Bijlani, a veteran writer and spiritual seeker at the Sri Aurobindo Ashram (Delhi Branch), has edited the story and enriched it with an interactive element to enhance its educational value and make it more relevant to contemporary readers.

Most of the illustrations in this book have been created by Sarita Jaiswal, a talented young artist who completed both her undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Fine Arts at the prestigious College of Art, Delhi. In 2019, she was awarded the Sahitya Kala Parishad Scholarship in Visual Arts by the Government of Delhi. Sarita immerses herself in the emotions of the characters she illustrates, bringing their feelings to life through vivid and expressive artwork.
