This book is intended for meditation practitioners who seek authentic self-development methods as taught by Patanjali and the Buddha. It is based on my extensive experience studying Oriental methods of self-development since 1989. Through communication with several yoga-realized saints living in various ashrams, receiving multiple spiritual names, and translating dozens of books on Oriental topics, I have gained a comprehensive understanding of the essence of self-development teachings.

The book provides a structured description of the psychopractices of Hindu yoga and Buddhism, stripped of superstitions, misconceptions, and cargo cults. It includes a thorough comparative analysis of the psychotechnologies of yoga and Buddhism, presented in the context of their study by neuroscience. The book explains the original meanings of significant Sanskrit terms used during the times of Patanjali and the Buddha in plain language, unveiling the unified essence of their transcendent teachings.

A detailed, step-by-step guide to the practices-starting from the basics and progressing to the ultimate goal of achieving super-consciousness or Buddha consciousness-will be valuable for both beginners and seasoned meditators.

Additionally, the book shares insights from my years of experience using neuroheadsets in meditation practice, including the free "EEG Meditation" applications I developed for the real assessment of the quality and duration of samadhi/shamatha meditation.

If this book helps readers understand the missing aspects of Raja Yoga and Buddhism, leading to significant progress on their path-or even achieving the ultimate goal of the teachings of Patanjali and the Buddha-it will be an incredible success.

About the Author:

Vasyl Vernyhora graduated with honors from the Vinnytsia Polytechnic Institute (since 1994 it is the Vinnytsia State Technical University), Ukraine, in 1993 with a degree in computer science.

Having a strong aspiration to study the methods of self-development of yoga and Buddhism, he quit his job as a bank programmer and visited India since 1997, living there for a total of more than 7 years, including being in India continuously from 2001 to 2006.

In 2004 the author, perhaps the first among residents of the CIS, received individual sannyasa diksha from Somnath Giriji, mahamandaleshwar (one of the chairmen) of the Hindu monastic lineage of Sri Panch Dashnam Juna Akhara, in his head Himalayan ashram. He also studied Buddhism by living in Buddhist monasteries in Dharamsala, Bylakuppe and Ladakh and interacting with Tibetan Rinpoches and Geshes.

Also he has many-year experience in using neuroheadsets in meditation practice (from early amateur projects of electroencephalographs to ready-made neuroheadsets). He wrote the free "EEG Meditation" applications (for Android & Windows, for NeuroSky headsets, that use the new parameter he developed) for real assessment of the quality and duration of samadhi/shamatha meditation.

The author, continuing to live in Ukraine, shares in the book his experience gained as a result of meditation practice.

excellent: enlightening and energising!

Profound thanks to elder brother Vasyl for a great treatise on meditation practice. I have found this one of the most helpful texts I have ever encountered, that for a western mind puts so much in perspective - I dont completely agree with some of his assessments - esp dismissal of asanas :) but I love and respect his views. I look forward to volume 2

This book leaves far behind everything that I read about meditation before.

Taking this book in my hands, I was skeptical. I did not expect to find out something new, looking at its content. Now I read this book and I can't believe it was written by our contemporary. After reading it, everything finally became clear to me - what Yoga and Buddhism are all about and why they are really needed. This book leaves far behind everything that I read about meditation before. The lectures and videos that I listened to before, compared to this book, look like a retelling of ancient texts without the narrators understanding their meaning. Finally, I learned what samyama really is and where this word came from. Now I don't even see the point in reading other books on meditation, because for me they look like fiction against the background of this specific presentation in understandable words of the real essence, method and purpose of what the ancient yogis spoke about.

Probably the best book I had ever read on Meditation practices

No doubt, that this book wrote by the person who has deep own knowledge in the meditation. He is not only familiar with topic, by books. In spite of many existed literatures on this topic, the author in simple and open manner describe his own experience and what result we expect to get if make efforts.
It not for science-oriented people only, the book is easily understanding everybody, even without having university degree or being specialist in Oriental spiritual practices.
I have a feeling, that whose who wrote the book brave enough to demonstrate mistakes which cover spiritual practices, and which leads to demolishing the pure Teachings and supports only blind rituals while time passed. Blind rituals are useless, it is cargo cult which is not bring results. The Author directly pointed on it.
As well deserve attention the fact, how to measure meditation effectiveness with modern devices.
Highly recommend book for anyone who is interested in mind developing methods. Worth to read and practice.

This is one of the best meditation guide in the world.

When I started reading, I didn't know what deep hole I was going to fall into. The book contains a lot of comparative analysis, citations, and references to other sources. Step by step, this book immerses the reader in the depths of the essence of ancient teachings.

A special value for me was found in a very detailed description of the possibilities of modern technologies that can be used for meditation today.

Past experience and present technological developments in tracking meditation practice

The book perfectly describes the meditation practice of the ancient sages using a modern neuroheadset. Thanks to the experience of the author's own inner knowledge and his developments, it is very convenient to track the depth of immersion and stay in a state of meditation using a neuroheadset. The book is written in an accessible and informative way. I recommend reading it.
