Nectar of Bhagavatam Tales

The book Nectar of Bhagavatam Tales contains stories from the first nine cantos of the Srimad Bhagavatam. Comprising 52 chapters, it introduces this great Purana to young English-speaking readers.

The book is written for readers with no prior exposure to any Indian language. To familiarize readers with India's cultural heritage, Sanskrit words have been used where exact English equivalents are unavailable. These words are italicized, with their meanings provided in parentheses. To help readers pronounce Sanskrit words correctly, the book also includes a guide to Sanskrit transliteration and the use of diacritical marks.

Readers may be unfamiliar with the characters of the Puranas and their family relationships. Therefore, diagrams illustrating these relationships have been included wherever necessary. To make the book more engaging, sketches have also been used to illustrate the stories.

The Endnotes included in many chapters provide additional information for curious readers. A bibliography is also included for those who wish to explore the sources further. A glossary explains unfamiliar terms, while an index lists the major characters and other words of interest.

An earlier manuscript of the book has already been used by teachers at Chinmaya Mission in Chicago and at the Dallas Guruvayurappan Temple. The book may be of particular interest to young adults living in Indian metropolitan cities and in countries with significant Indian diaspora communities.
