This volume presents a synthesized approach to horoscope compatibility analysis, developed over some years of experimentation. This approach blends the principles of compatibility analysis familiar to most practicing jyotishis with other, lesser-known techniques culled from Jyotisha's classical canon. Certain of these techniques are based on oral traditions that somehow were never

incorporated into the classical works of antiquity. Others come from our direct lineage mentors of Jyotisha. Yet others have been nurtured from our direct lineage mentors of Jyotisha. Yet others have been nurtured from both Western and Eastern inspirational seeds into processes that have been validated over many years of experience. Our attempts to synthesize notwithstanding, we believe the foundations of the methods that we introduce here are firmly anchored in Jyotisha.

Many readers will find that the principles we advocate cohere in practice rather more readily than they may seem to in print. To minimize the risk of selecting illustrative horoscopes that

merely selectively support our theses, we have purposely chosen a limited set of examples,

testing each of our varied techniques on the same subjects to provide a fairer picture of how

an actual relationship analysis might proceed.

Building on some of the best principles from both Eastern and Western astrological traditions, authors Hart de Fouw and Robert E. Svoboda present a synthesized approach to horoscope compatibility analysis, developed over years of experimentation. This approach blends principles of analysis familiar to those who have studied Indian astrology with lesser-known techniques culled from the classic texts and oral traditions of Jyotisha. Their technique bridges the chasm between Western horoscope comparison and the culture specific traditions of Indian astrology.

De Fouw and Svoboda provide sample charts of illustrate the techniques they use; they examine compatibility issues, and look at the strength or potential of a relationship. The authors maintain that your chart outlines your fate only in that it reflects your traits and ideals-karmas dictated by past actions and conditioning-which can be mediated by exercising free will. Chart analysis then becomes a useful tool for self-awareness when examining a relationship: what strengths complement each other and what weaknesses will require conscious work.
